Believe it or not, being part of the Downtown Dolls means that you need to be able to keep up with the big girls at the bar. That means that you may want to think twice about ordering that Cosmopolitan or Appletini. Why? Cause no self-respecting doll would ever mutter those words at the kind of bars we frequent.

So in order to look tough and make sure that you look like a lady that can hold your own, here are a few drinks you might want to order next time you're hangin' with the DTD.

The Rusty Nail

Just the name gives you memories of the last time you were at The Manhattan in, or Lakeside Lounge. Don't worry, this drink is milder than it sounds by combining Scotch and Drambuie. It's a forgotten drink that's well-worth bringing back for its creamy, complex flavors and impress the guy next to you as you order it with full Doll confidence.

• 1 ounce blended Scotch

• 1 ounce Drambuie

Fill a lowball glass with ice and pour the ingredients in. Give them a fast stir, drop a lemon twist in, and then sneak a glance at the guy next to you right before you walk away .

The Bloody Mary

Ah yes, a mix of spices, the sweet tang of good tomato juice and a sinus-clearing dose of horseradish. Plus, it's one of the few drinks society finds acceptable before noon, especially at DTD slumber parties and photoshoots.

1 1/2 ounces vodka
1/2 cup tomato juice
2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
Worcestershire sauce to taste
Tabasco to taste
1 celery stick for garnish
1 lemon wedge for garnish

Combine the vodka, the tomato juice, the lemon juice, the Worcestershire sauce, the Tabasco, 1 cup ice cubes, and salt and pepper to taste, shake the mixture well, and strain it into a tall glass filled with ice cubes. Garnish the Bloody Mary with the celery stick and the lemon wedge, or if you're a fiery type, forgo the celery stick ans replace with a spicy green bean.

The Zombie

Don't worry, this doesn't sounds as bad as the name. It's basically how you're going to feel after you comsume on of these concoctions.

1oz white rum
1oz golden rum
1oz dark rum
1oz Apricot Brandy
1oz Pineapple juice
1/2 part 151-proof rum
Dash of grenadine

Combine all ingredients, except for the 151-proof, in a shaker with ice. Poor into a tall glass and top with the proof rum. FYI, if you're making this at a party and want to impress, this cocktail can be lit.

I'm sure there are many more that one can consume and still look badass. If you're at a loss, you can always just stick to beer. Cheap beer.

Last month, the dolls go together for an official photoshoot with the wonderful Po at Fast Ashley's studios in Brooklyn. As the girl who is always behind the camera, this was a new and exciting experience but I was freaked out nonetheless. I mean it was going to be pretty hard to stand next to seasoned fashion bloggers like Nickie and Mel.

However, when we all showed up in garb perfect for each of our Downtown Dolls 'personas' -weapons and all, things started to get fun!

Above is a great shot! From left to right is Mel aka *Snowflake* with her signature throwing star; Brooke aka Kill E. with dangerous weaponry of hairspray and a lighter off to the side; Maresa aka Mess Demeanor with TWO pairs of badass brass knuckes; Nickie aka Joan Threat with a chain whip and; me, Jess aka Stevie Kicks with gold spurs on my boots. 

We attempted to show off our weapons as best we could. Kill E.'s was definitely the hardest to display. Here we are trying to have Kill E. light a flame in front of us-- the the things we do in the name of a good photo!

Semi success! Well, it wasn't as great as we imagined but you can see a little flame on my belly-hardcore!

After the group shots, we attempted taking some individual shots of each of our personas, but technology soon failed us. Our Prez Joan Threat did end up with some awesome shots twirling and whipping her chain.

 And where does she get those guns?! As JT would say... THREE POUND WEIGHTS!

 

 No matter what level of modeling expertise, safe to say this was tons of fun for us dolls and we're stoked to have some great pro shots of the gang!

Cruising for a Bruising

So, it's been over a week now since seeing Hunx and his Punx at Glasslands with fellow dolls, Joan Threat and Miss Demeanor, and I do believe our arms are still covered in bruises.  I do have a couple mystery bruises that aren't from "lets see how many punches in the arm we can take"...um...game.  

Things I remember from the evening...

     Its a good thing we got tickets early cause the show sold out.

Rolling Rock tall boys are cheap enough to throw on people next to you and/or band.  But that's where the memory stops kids.  So I might have imagined that up but my shoes do look like beer was dumped at some point.  Shit, I hope it's beer.

The pictures suck because I was too busy having fun to care and I'm too lazy to steal another person's photos or give credit.  Although, I do kinda like them cause I promise that's about how I saw it.

Hmmm...what else...the show was great fun made me feel young again.  I don't know maybe not.  Check out Hunx if you have never, also Shannon and the Clams.
